What Makes Our Sleep Testing Approach Unique
We take sleep apnea seriously, and you can rest assured that every step of our testing process is thorough and catered to your specific circumstances. This is just one of the many benefits of having both a skilled sleep dentist and an experienced physician’s assistant on staff!
Our sleep testing process involves a full patient history and examination of the orofacial structures; diligence is key here, and even the smallest detail can have a large impact on your sleep apnea and corresponding treatment. After we’ve had the chance for an in-person checkup, we can provide you with a take-home sleep test or direct you to one of our trusted partners for a lab sleep study.
Once we’ve analyzed the results of this study, which typically takes 24 to 48 hours, we can then begin mapping out a customized treatment plan that might involve CPAP therapy, oral appliance treatment, or some other type of solution. We’ll educate you about each of these options too, ensuring that you’re receiving care that doesn’t just work for your sleep apnea, but also works for your lifestyle.
Take a Sleep Apnea Self-Assessment
Are you wondering if you might have sleep apnea? We can help to determine this before you even come in! We ask that you fill out our sleep apnea self-assessment questionnaire, linked below. You’ll be directed to a form that’ll cover a few basic questions about you and your lifestyle. Using this information, we can begin to determine the severity of your case and possible avenues of treatment.
In-Depth Sleep Apnea Consultation & Evaluation
We’re able to perform a comprehensive evaluation here in our office when you come in for your consultation. We’ll carefully review your sleep history, conduct a physical examination of your orofacial structures, and even send you home with your sleep study kit on that very same day. We’re also happy to discuss future treatment options in detail with you while you’re here. Ultimately, the goal is to be sure we have a game plan in place for managing your symptoms moving forward.
Do I Need a Sleep Test?
Since sleep apnea episodes can occur hundreds of times in a given night without a patient even knowing, it’s not always easy to deduce if a sleep test is necessary. However, there are a few obvious symptoms of sleep apnea that can usually give patients a hint about the condition’s presence, including loud snoring, trouble falling or staying asleep, daytime sleepiness, and waking up gasping for air during the night. Sometimes, a sleeping partner can be the one to identify these symptoms, too, or recording yourself during sleep might shed light on any of them.
How a Take-Home Sleep Test Works
Take-home sleep tests are an absolutely essential component of any sleep apnea diagnosis; they provide our team with a sufficient amount of detailed information about your specific sleep apnea case. In turn, this lets us custom-tailor a treatment plan that suits your lifestyle and needs!
We use the WatchPat One device for our take-home sleep tests; this is a unique solution in the sense that it’s fairly small, surprisingly intuitive to use, and safe. It measures all kinds of important metrics including breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and even body position and actigraphy. It’s very easy to wear, too – the device fits over your wrist and index finger and syncs up with an app for easy setup.
Many patients prefer these take-home tests since it lets them conduct them in a familiar and comfortable environment. Plus, the information it tracks is incredibly reliable and detailed, and since it’s so easy to use, there’s a much smaller margin of error when it comes to patient compliance. We’re able to follow up and provide an analysis of your results within 24 to 48 hours, ensuring treatment can quickly commence.
How an In-Lab Sleep Test Works
With in-lab sleep tests, the primary goal is the exact same – to closely monitor your oxygen levels and sleeping patterns throughout the night so that it’s possible to accurately determine what type of sleep apnea you have.
However, the key difference here is that this test is performed in a special office and under the supervision of a skilled team. It’s non-invasive and relatively simple; small sensors are attached to your body, which measure and track all of your vitals as you sleep. Audio and visual observation are also conducted, for added thoroughness.
We’re partnered with some of the absolute best local sleep centers and experts, ensuring the care you receive is specific to your case. However, it’s not uncommon for patients to prefer at-home tests over this option, but in any case, whichever type of test you undergo, you’re one step closer to the end goal: managing your condition enough to where you’re able to achieve restful sleep each night. The diagnosis provided by one of these tests makes this possible!
